A semi-finished steel product of square section, cast and later reheated and rolled into rebar, wire rod or light sections. Cameroon currently imports billets in large quantities.

Direct reduced or briquetted iron made with low-carbon energy, often near the mine or renewable power, then shipped to steelworks. A long-term option for Central Africa.

A form of direct reduction in which hydrogen replaces part or all of the natural gas. If the hydrogen is made with low-carbon electricity, the emissions of the iron fall sharply.
