  1. 01 From ore to steel 117 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP01 · Value chain

From ore to steel: Cameroon’s missing link is ironmaking, not rolling

Cameroon holds the ore and a growing market, yet captures little value: the gap lies upstream, in iron units and billets.

    16 chapters3 habout 117 pp.

  2. 02 Kribi as a steel platform 109 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP02 · Site and logistics

Kribi can become Central Africa’s steel platform if infrastructure keeps pace

Deep water, an organised zone, a 225 kV link and rail plans: Kribi has what heavy industry needs, if sequencing keeps pace.

    16 chapters2.8 habout 109 pp.

  3. 03 Choosing the route 116 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP03 · Technology

Electric steelmaking is the right route for Central Africa

An arc furnace fed first with scrap and DRI, later with Cameroonian iron, offers the best balance of capital, flexibility and carbon.

    16 chapters2.9 habout 116 pp.

  4. 04 Steel demand 122 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP04 · Market

Cameroon’s steel gap lies in iron units, not in rebar

Rebar is saturated; the deficit lies in billets, iron units, flat products and heavy sections.

    16 chapters3.1 habout 122 pp.

  5. 05 Power and gas 114 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP05 · Energy

Cameroon’s hydro grid can power low-carbon steel if large users get firm supply, clear tariffs and gas

A hydro-dominated grid is an asset, given dedicated connections, clear large-user tariffs and a reliable gas allocation.

    16 chapters2.9 habout 114 pp.

  6. 06 Lower-carbon steel 118 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP06 · Climate

Lower-carbon steel from Cameroon: it could reach a third of the world’s carbon intensity

On Cameroon’s grid an electric steelworks could emit far below global averages; verified measurement becomes an advantage under CBAM.

    16 chapters3 habout 118 pp.

  7. 07 Building responsibly 109 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP07 · Environment and society

Building responsibly in Kribi: a steelworks can meet international standards on four conditions

Early assessment, measurements across all seasons, honest engagement with communities and international standards from design.

    16 chapters2.8 habout 109 pp.

  8. 08 Skills for steel 107 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP08 · Skills

Cameroon can staff its steel industry if training starts before the furnace does

Steel creates skilled, lasting jobs if training pipelines and local content are built ahead of operations.

    16 chapters2.7 habout 107 pp.

  9. 09 The economics of domestic steel 115 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP09 · Economics

Domestic steel saves foreign exchange only when it competes at border prices

Producing iron, billets and sections locally can save foreign exchange and deepen industry, if output is competitive at border prices.

    16 chapters2.9 habout 115 pp.

  10. 10 Quality steel 108 pp.
    Visualisation

    WP10 · Quality

Safer buildings need rebar that meets its declared grade

Building safety depends on rebar that meets its declared grade; certified, traceable production raises the floor.

    16 chapters2.8 habout 108 pp.

Each billet is one study; its length follows its page count. The cut end glows while the study is unread on this device, then cools to steel as you read. Hover a billet, or move through them with the keyboard, to open its data plate.Tap a billet to open its data plate.

Every white paper is published online in three editions: the full text in English and in French, chapter by chapter, and a Chinese summary edition (complete executive summary, a summary of every chapter, evidence gaps and glossary), each Chinese page followed by the full English text. All three editions can be downloaded as PDFs.

How this is calculated

How to read these studies

SourcedDerivedAssumptionIllustrative
  1. Every figure has a status

Sourced, derived, assumption or illustrative: every exhibit and table says which, with a marker pointing to the list of sources in the annex.

  2. Project values are planned

Cameroon Steel figures come from the RC-1 reference configuration: they are planning values, not commitments.

  3. Three languages, one source

The full text is published online in English and in French, chapter by chapter. The Chinese edition gives the complete executive summary and a summary of every chapter, with the English text alongside. All three editions can be downloaded as PDFs.
